Caught a fever last Tuesday. Daddy did not realise that the little one is sick till when I came home from work. Daddy was complaining that the little one was rejecting dinner and was cranky the whole night.

I carried the little one out of the high chair wanting to clean her up since she does not want dinner only to find that she was running a temperature. No wonder she was cranky. Gave her a quick bath and measured her temp which was 37.8 degrees. Gave her paracetamol immediately and she slept.

Her temperature rose to 38.5 in the middle of the night and I had to bath her to bring her temp down. It was difficult to make her drink some milk before giving her another dose of medication. The worst thing was that I had to fly off the next day. I could only bring her to the doc in the morning and bring her to my in laws following that. Frankly, I flew with a heavy heart.

I am lucky that my in laws love her so much that they were willing to do anything for her. Hubs took leave the next day to take care of her as we were afraid that her temperature will spike at night triggering fits. He had to monitor her temperature faithfully throughout the night. Poor hubs... did not have sufficient sleep that few days till I was back. Luckily her fever broke on Friday and on Saturday she was feeling lots better.

They picked me up from the airport that day and I could see that she was very lethargic and weak. When I looked at her closely, I realised that she was having some rashes! I have heard that rashes were common after toddler's fever break. I heave a sigh of relieve but was still worried. The rashes did not disappear the next day hence we skipped swimming lessons and Zac's First Birthday Celebration.

Friends saw my post on FB and called me. Some also offered answers on why she was having rashes. A friend suggested that she was having Roseola Rash or Infant Rash. I googled it and the symptoms described on one of the websites really described what Janelle had.

1) Red or pink raised rash all over the body
2) Easily irritable

She had the runs today and we brought her to the doc as the rashes seem to have increased in numbers. I guess being a first time parent; we brought her to the doctor for confirmation. We were given some lotion to apply and medication to reduce the rash. Hope that she will be better tomorrow.

My First Mother's Day

This year's Mother's Day, we celebrated in School instead since Janelle has started going for her playgroup classes begining of May. She adapted pretty well in school although she screamed and cried whenever I dropped her off for the first two weeks. However, I heard that she had refused to go home when MIL picked her up!! Hahahhaa.

The school sent us invites to join them in the celebration, curious as what they have in stored for us, we agreed to join in the celebration. We met up with a few of Janelle's classmates and their parent when we arrived.

The invite which Janelle has afixed her thumb print. Really small isn't it?

The celebration kicked off with us doing a scrapbook on the family photo which we had to bring along. Janelle was not much of a help as she was more interested in making a mess of the things that were provided for us.

The completed project...

The family photo taken by Teacher Yaya

Janelle presented me with a flower

Which she broke into two....

Hahhaa... it was an unforgetable Mother's Day.

Janelle's Overseas Trip - BKK 29 April to 02 May 11

We flew the first time with Janelle in tow. We wanted to bring her overseas but could not decide on where we should go. The trip has to have a short flight and food must be suitable for a todder. BKK seems to fit the bill and there was a promotion for the air tickets there! BKK it was!

Packing a luggage with a todder is also not an easy thing to do. We had to ensure that she has sufficient food and diapers. Had to think about alternative food which we can bring over just in case she refuses to eat the food over there. We ended up with two huge luggages when we usually will need one!

We were lucky that Janelle was pretty cooperative during the flight, she just fall asleep whenever the plane is cruising along the runway and wakes up 30 mins before we reach our destination. I will say that our airport is the best! The presence of the baby stroller at the departure hall was something that really helped parents who are travelling. She was willing to be strapped in her seat while we have our meals at the airport. This aid us as there were no baby chairs around in the restuarant. Or maybe its just the one I went to.

Upon reaching the hotel, Janelle immediately checked out the bed! She just simply climbed onto the bed and made herself comfortable! Placing herself on the bed with the pillows for support, she just laid there while we busied ourselves unpacking the luggage and preparing to go for dinner! Talking about enjoying life. I think Janelle knows more about that compared to either of us.

Whenever we go to BKK it was either for work or a shopping trip. This time round, we changed our plans and headed to Dreamworld in BKK. We met up with Phi, Tib, Wanida and family for a group trip. It was raining in the morning and I was worried that we could not go ahead with our plans. As heaven has planned for us, the rain stopped and it became a cloudy day with fantastic weather for out door activities. It was not scorching hot but it was still humid. Better then raining.

Janelle with Ing on the tiger

Janelle in the Giant's Boots in Jack and the Beanstalk

Dear and Janelle outside the Witch's House in Hansel and Gretal

Little Ing and Janellle on Cinderalla's Horses

Janelle's virgin ride in the amusement park. Amazingly she did not cry and tried to calm Ing down when he cried. She only cried when she realised that her companion has left the helicoptor.

Ing and Janelle having a very serious discussion about the sofa over dinner.

Both kids seems to hit off quite well with Ing always wanting to be with Janelle during dinner. He also wanted to eat almost everything that Janelle is eating. It was always amusing to us to see the two todders communicate with each other in their baby languages. It was a pity that we did not capture the moments when they were chatting. Both of them always stop when we bring out our cameras.

Shopping is something that we could not miss out in all our trip to BKK. However the little one was not very cooperative when it comes to me shopping. She insisted that I carried her almost throughout the day. I was unable to try any clothings. It was a good thing that we brought our carrier there. Janelle has turned 16 months and not one blog since her birthday. What a mother!! Hahahaha. Now I don't know where to start.

Sometimes I really hope that she stops growing. I preferred and miss when she is just a baby. I can carry her and hug her. Now, she just wants to play and refuses to let me carry her unless she is cranky or wants to sleep. Been more active now, she has also lost her baby fats and is not as chubby as before. I miss her chuncks of meat. hahhaha.

On her verbal growth, she hasn't really called me or her dad yet. She just goes mom, mom, mom. But I don't think she is calling out for me. She also refuses to say anything till CNY. We brought her to the market and suddenly she shouted, CAT! We were shocked. When hubs brought her to the playground, she chased after a school of birds and shouted bird, bird, bird.

I read the Sleeping Beauty book to her and asked her to point out where is the dog in the picture. She just said dog and that was it. She doesn't want to repeat it again. She is so stingy with words. I know that she understands what we told her and wants her to do as she will follow our instructions. But she just simply refuses to talk when asked to. Wonder when she will really talk.

Maybe I should just enjoy the moments when there is peace and quiet in the house. It seems that she was only born yesterday when she came into this world quietly and screamed after the nurse hit her butt. After that, we know that her cries and screams are loud enough for everyone to hear her.

Looking back at the photos which we had taken of her since the day she was born, I am amazed at how much she changed since day 1. Did she really change that much?

From the crumpled skin her to the plump baby to her now (she slimed down a bit).

From drinking only breast milk to formula to solids now

From when she could not even lift up her head or turn to standing and crawling now.

From not being able to recognize any of us till now she knows who is mummy, daddy (whom she bullies) and grandma and grandpa.

She have changed so much that I start to question if I have taken enough photo of her? Am I spending quality time with her since I have more responsibilities at work and flying around more.

Wonder what mischief is she currently up to at this moment in time when I am not around at home.

Janelle Standing up

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v9.nonxt4.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D309acbbd8ec2ad45%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331265611%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D6DAE8233341ECC21F9DC8917F1B6A491E5BA7A3D.819B7132DBE9C9449F6A96F0D940C56804E08761%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D309acbbd8ec2ad45%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DCLEkX30Ysi-H7Q0i88zNeRqwcQ4&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Took this video before I head to the airport. In fact I have also travelled overseas for training and left my little precious girl in Singapore. While overseas I never fail to think about her whenever I am free and will scroll through her pictures which I have in my phone. At that point, I regretted in not having more photos of her in my phone. Hahhaha I must be crazy right?

Sometimes due to my work, I can only come back at 7pm. At that time, Janelle is about to go to bed for the night. I cannot spend more time with her. I feel so guilty about it. Ohhh... How I miss the days when I just spend the entire day with her. Can I go back in time? She is growing, changing and achiving different milestone each day but I am not there to witness it.

Recently at 4 months and two weeks, she started to flip onto her tummy on her own. She just suddenly learn to turn on her own without any signal or warnings. I feel so sad that I wasn't the first person to witness her first flip. sob sob.

Little play time with mummy.

During CNY, we also realised that she has learnt to recongise people. When we were at my mother's place, when my dad carried her, she will look at my dad and look around the house before starting to wail! She seems to know that the person who is carrying is not her parents and this isn't her home. I assume that she cried as she does not meet my parents often. However I was proven wrong when we went to Hubby's grandma's place and did not allow my MIL to carry her. My MIL has been taking care of Janelle for more than a month. Why does Janelle allow MIL or FIL to carry her?

I hope that I will not miss out anything in Janelle's milestone. I know there is no way that I can turn back the clock and do it all over again.

Little Janelle in her bounce-about

We also have started Janelle on solids. She seems to love the brown rice cereal which we first started her on. We also have started her on Avocado and she really loves it. She will cry and ask for more whenever we feed her. Next I am going to try carrots or peas. Hmmm hopefully she will like vegetables.

Janelle having her yummy brown rice cereal

I simply love it when she wear this bodysuit

3 months going onto 4 months

How fast time has passed, its already almost 4 months since the birth of my baby girl, Janelle. Its really difficult to leave for work each day when I place her at my in laws.

While browsing through the photos, which were taken when she was just one month old, I realised that she looked so different and how much she has changed since.

First month

Second Month

Third Month

More photos of her which I had took and had no time to post them.

Sitting in the highchair and enjoying it. type='text'>3rd Month

Janelle has reached her 3rd month mark. Now each morning when she wakes up, she will smile at me when I pick her up from her cot. Then she will start chattering as if she is telling me what she had dreamt last night. Sometimes after she poo and I question her about it, she will smile at me sheepishly as if though she know that she has done something wrong.

She also got cheekier and naughtier with each increasing day. Now she wants to be picked up whenever she cries. She simply will cry louder and louder when she realised that we are beside her but not picking her up. She also seems to know when I am angry and tries to wriggle her way out by smiling at me. Isn't she cheeky.

I also have hit a milestone in breastfeeding as I have been breast feeding her fully for 3 months. This is certainly not an easy task since I have to eat right and wake up in the middle of the night to express out the milk since she has been sleeping through the nights. Recently she seems to be on a growth spur and start waking up in the middle of the night for her feeds again. I hope that I will be able to sustain the current amount of breast milk for her till at least I am back at work.

We also have brought her to my in laws' place to allow her to transition to stay at their place. The first time I brought her there as I had go back to office for a few hours. She cried so loudly that day as if she knew that I am going to leave her there. Maybe it was time for her nap and she found herself to be in an unfamiliar house. The following visit, I ensured that she was sleeping first before I bring her there. This time round she is not as cranky as before and was more willing to be carried by my in laws. Oh how I missed her when I placed her there and left. My mind was constantly thinking what she was doing over there. I felt so gulity when I leave the place and just could not help thinking what is she doing and whether she is crying for me.

She got all the attention she wanted over at my in laws. They carried her and played with her constantly. When she is home, she demanded the same amount of attention and when its not given to her, she just simply screamed. Hiaz...

However she is also settled into a routine that I am comfortable with. Unlike the initial two months where her sleep and wake time were all so uncertain. There are times she will only sleep for an hour in the entire day and there are times when she will sleep almost the entire day. Now she will take two major naps in the day and shorter naps in between. This gives me more breathing space and rest time.

No matter how tough it might be taking care of her, I am enjoying the process tremedously and is dreading the day when I have to go back to work. Can I stay home and take care of her???

Janelle Goes Swimming

Janelle always loves to kick whenever we bath her. Sometimes she kicks so hard that she hits her head against the bath tub. So when I got a voucher from a friend to bring Janelle go swimming, we brought her there today.

She was a darling when the lady over at the shop did warm up exercises with her to help her loosen her muscles. As she always hates people touching her head, when the lady placed the float on her, she screamed. The crying stopped immediately when she was placed in tub. She enjoyed herself tremedously in the pool. She started kicking and looking around when she is in there. She also rewarded everyone who played or looked at her with smiles.

She enjoyed herself so much that she cried when she was removed from the tub. Finally we managed to capture a video of her cooing while I talk to her in the morning. Usually after she wakes up in the morning and starts to cry, I will pick her up and chat with her. It was a little difficult to capture this video as she will always keep quiet when the camera is rolling and start to coo again when we stop the camera.

Janelle has hit her 2 months mark and I also had successfully breast feed her for an entire two months. Hopefully I will have the willpower and strength to carry on as long as I can. Its not an easy task breast feeding a baby. If you are low on supply you worry that you do not have enough for your baby. If you have sufficient, you have to be careful and diligent to prevent the onset of mastitis due to engorgement. I also have to wake up in the middle of the night to express out the milk. That reduces the amount of continuous sleep that I can get. I am a big panda now.

I was sick

Janelle has started to sleep longer at night. There are times she will only wake up once for her feed instead of twice a night. On Tuesday, I brought her out for a gathering. She fell asleep while on our way there but woke up to the noise and sounds at Swensens. As there were other babies around, Janelle kept staring and looking at the others around her. She only took a nap when we were on our way home and totally knocked out after I fed and bath her for the day.

She was so tired that she did not wake up for her feed that night. I kept waking up at the timings which she usually feeds but she did not wake up. I delayed pumping the milk as I was afraid that she will wake up and has nothing to feed on. I only started to pump at 5.30 am after 7 hours since the last feed. I did not pump all the milk and wanted to feed her when she is awake. However she did not manage to clear all the milk. As the day drags on, the accumulation of the milk in my breast increased and I could not clear it by pumping. The milk ducts was blocked. It was then I started to develop a temperature. I suspected that I was having a fever and asked hubby to come home as soon as he could. While waiting for him to be home, it was a torturous wait as I still had to take care of Janelle.

When hubby reached home, I took my temperature and found that I had a fever of 38.8 degrees. I went to the doctor and was advise to consider stop breastfeeding. As I am breastfeeding, the Doc could not give me stronger medication to curb the high fever. By giving me weaker medication, it could mean that it will take a longer time for me to recover. If I could not clear the block ducts I may have to undergo surgery to release the milk. Hence I was asked to return for a follow up consultation on Saturday.

Luckily I could clear the blocked ducts after using cold compress and taking a warm bath. The fever has subsided and I felt much better already. This was really a terrible experience for me. I will not be lazy again and will wake up min 4 hourly to pump out the milk.

<img width='1' height='1' YES! Hahaha. Don't get me wrong. The CL is a great help to me during this period of time. When we got home from the hospital she went direct into cooking, sterilising and getting things ready for baby and me without hesitation. Both hubby and me were all tired when we got home from the hospital and were grateful for her help. She even asked me to express out the milk and told me to sleep while she feeds Janelle in her night feeds. Maybe I just cannot accept things that are not being done in a certain way. Conclusion! I can never hire a maid.

Days without the nanny is a little tough. I have to clean the house, cook and care for the baby on my own. Its a little more work then before but I am enjoying it. She can get really cranky at times when she does not want to sleep and wants to be carried all the time. Frustrating! But, when she just smiles or make a funny face at you when you talk or scold her, you will forget everything that you were angry about. Is that motherhood?

Sticking out her tongue

Her crossed eye look.

When she crosses the one month mark, we decided to shave her head botak. It was either we shave her during her first month or fourth month. During her fourth month is going to be CNY. We did not want her to be botak then so it was now.

One last photo before we bring her to the barber.

Botak!

She looks like a little boy boy now. This was encouraged by my gynae and friends alike. One month before bb was born, I was already leaking on one side. I felt confident that I will be able to breastfeed my child when she is born and I have sufficient milk to fulfill her needs.

I did not try breastfeeding the moment Janelle was born as I felt nausea and was puking. Only when I was transferred to the normal ward, I tried to breastfeed her. However, Janelle was too sleepy and young to suckle the colostrum. We got the lactation consultant to assist the next day and was informed that baby does not know how to suckle yet and has to be taught. I was asked to express out the colostrum into a small cup.

The Lactation Consultant, Jenny, fed bb by wetting the bb's lips and tongue with colostrum. Bb starts to lick and swallow the food. It was then Janelle learnt how to suckle when she was lached on. Jenny then taught me the various methods to feed Janelle.

At home, I fed baby by latching on however Janelle was crying after every one and the half hours. The Confinement Lady (CL) insisted that I do not have sufficient milk for the baby and insisted feeding formula milk. We allowed her to do that while I expressed out the milk. When I was able to express out sufficient milk, the CL just kept quiet. However she insisted that I have sufficient rest at night and told me to express out the milk for her to feed at night. I got up early in the morning to express out the milk which I had. I did not require any alarm clocks or anyone to wake me up. The pain from the engorgement of the breast was sufficient to wake me up at 3am in the morning.

I had sufficient milk since day one but recently I realised that I could not express out as much milk as I am able to. It could be due that I had reduced the frequency of feeding as I had arranged for the massaging session. Upon reading up more on the Internet, I found that the amount which I was able to pump out initially was excess milk in the early weeks but this will change and the amount of milk will be regulated either gradually or suddenly. The amount that I am able to pump out and the amount which the baby will get when she is latched on is also different. When baby is latched on, she will be able to get more compared to when I pump the milk out. For more information, here is the website which I got the information from.

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/pumping_decrease.html

Now I can can just diligently pump out the milk and try to latch her on in the day as much as I can. Hopefully the supply does not decrease further.

Days with Baby

Life has never been the same with Bb Janelle around. After the initial check up at the PD, we were told that Janelle's jaundice level was a little too high. We were asked to go back for another blood test on Saturday. Test showed that her levels were down to 11 and we were asked to continue the phototherapy. However we did not even use that stupid bed. We just continued to sun her in the morning when its not so warm and feed her accordingly to pass out the excess bilrubin in her body.

The following blood test on Monday showed that her levels were down and we just need to monitor her skin colour ourselves. We heave a sign of relive upon hearing that.

Nowadays my life is just revolving around feeding her and ensuring that she will sleep. There are times in the day whereby she will just don't want to sleep. Her eyes will be opened wide open. I have tried to leave her in her bed after the confinement lady bath her. She will keep quiet a while but will cry after a while when nobody is attending to her. I tried not to pick her up when she just wimpering but her wimper will escalate into screams. She will scream her lungs out till there is no sound coming out from her. Upon seeing how hard she cries, I just simply ignore the fact that we wanted her to try to sleep on her own and pick her up. We will try to cox her to sleep by singing to her. When she is asleep in our arms and placed her in her cot, she will only sleep for about 15 to 30 mins before she starts wailing again. We tried to feed her more as she seems she is hungry as she is opening her mouth wide and looking for food but after feeding her she still refuses to sleep. I have also tried talking to her as she seems to listen and understand when we talk to her. But she still continue to wail. I just don't know what she wants.

This may carry on for the entire day. However she will sleep at night as she has exhausted her energy in the day and sometimes will refuse to wake up for her feed before the night is over.
But she is so fastinating to observe when she is sleeping. She has so many positions and poses.

I am a super baby position

I am so shy position.

Most of the times she is wrapped up in a cloth to allow her feel more secure (like in the womb) but will we unwrap her at times to allow her to get use to the enviroment.

Jaundice

We brought Janelle to the hospital for her jaundice check up yesterday. The blood test showed that she is has high levels of jaundice and has to undergo phototherapy to prevent the jaundice from increasing to the dangerous levels. Dr Tan (her PD) suggested to us to conduct the phototherapy at home by renting the bed.

We went home feeling a little sad and worried about her jaundice levels. When the bed arrived, we tried placing her in the bed but she was unwilling to allow us to do it. She cried, she screamed almost tore the entire house down. We gave up placing her in the bed when we saw how uncomfortable she was when we placed her in there. Our hearts broke when she cried so hard till she was hoarse.

I searched online and found that jaundice is normal in newborns. The baby's liver was unable to remove the bilirubin in the blood as the liver has yet to start functioning as quickly as it should. High levels of bilirubin in the blood may cause damages to the brain. She has a higher risk as I had jaundice when I was young. Dad had to bring me to the playground to catch some sun. We hope that the level of jaundice does not increase further in the next few days. We will have to bring her for another blood test tomorrow again. Praying for the best.

On a lighter note, Janelle seems to have double eyelids!

Welcoming Ms Janelle Tan

Our family has become a threesome with the arrival of little Ms Janelle Tan on 27 Sept 09, weighing 2.81Kg. The day started at 2am when I experience a slight leakage of water. I wasn't sure whether I was leaking water so I monitored for a while but there was no leakage anymore. So I went back to bed.

At 4am, I felt a few more gushes of water and I was wide awake almost immediately. In the toilet, the water just gushes out periodically. I tried to put on my clothes but the water was leaking continuously. I gave up and sat on the toilet and waited till the water stopped leaking. I woke Dear up and he asked so we should go to the hospital? I told him yes and he jumped up and started to pack the remaining items that we have yet to put into the bag.

I called the doctor and was told to go to the hospital. We dressed and took a cab down to Mt A. During the trip in the taxi, I was so worried that I will be leaking in the cab and dirty the cab. Luckily the leakage stopped when we left the house till I reach the hospital. I was admitted into the delivery ward where the water leakage continued! Contractions started only then and it was still bearable till 8 am where I asked for the laughing gas. At 10 am, the intensity of the contractions increased tremendously. A jab to the thigh was given and instantly I felt relieve. At 11am, the doctor said that the baby should arrive soon and thus I hung on without epidural.

At 2pm, the doctor commented that the cervix was only 6 cm dilated and it may take a while longer. I could not tolerate anymore! I opted for epidural. With the epidural, I felt like a piece of meat on sale in the market. I could not feel anything waist down. The dosage of epidural was decreased from 18 to 3mg/ml as I was trembling a lot that my blood pressure could not be recorded. Even at the lowest amount of 3mg/ml, I was still trembling. at 5 pm, I was asked to pushed! After a few pushes, bb was out!!!

After she was cleaned up in the delivery ward.

Introducing Ms Janelle Tan

6 Days

That is the no. of days left before the EDD date that my doc has given me. I have not gained any weight since last week and bb's weight was also almost stagnant. Bb has not moved into my pelvis hence she isn't engaged yet.

Initially I was worried that bb will come early now I wondered when she is ready to meet the world and as a friend mentioned, breath in the air in Singapore. Most of our friends had given birth 10 to 14 days earlier then the EDD. Only one of my friend gave birth 5 days after her EDD date. Even the confinement lady called me and asked me if I had given birth. She was worried that I forgotten about her.

I have started taking my leave to stay home instead of going to work as I have to clear my leave which were brought over from the previous year. Friends and colleagues have been nagging at me telling me to rest at home. I was just simply afraid that I will be bored since I am so used to the hectic working life. Its a good thing that its the long weekend so hubby is at home with me on Monday.

Bb, when will you like to meet the world?

Not yet

Yes, I am still around at home and going to work tomorrow. The gynae just confirmed that bb is fine and that she has grown amazingly in just one week. From 2.6kg to 2.9kg (almost 3kg)! Previously she just grow 200g every 3 weeks but this time, 300grams in just 1 week???!!! Now I am afraid that she might be a little big for natural birth, but the gynae said it should not be a problem and that I should give it a try.

I had stopped driving for a while and has been taking cabs around quite a bit. Most of the taxi drivers are quite nice when they see that I am pregnant. Some even give me advises as they are fathers or grandfathers themselves already. However the taxi driver I met yesterday was the most scary one.

He changes lane without checking if there is any vehicle in the other lane. He does not even know where is Far East Plaza, so I gave him directions on how to get there. Even so, he almost wanted to take the Thomson Road Exit on the CTE when I already informed him that its Cairnhill Exit. When he turned into Far East Plaza, he striked the curb. I got off the cab after we paid him. I was afraid for my own life.. I kept thinking what if we get into an accident?? I might not feel so frightened if I am not pregnant.

The worst thing is that I think I dropped my phone on his taxi! I called the cab company but nothing....The worst thing about loosing the phone is the contact list. So friends, do sms me your mobile no with your name so that I can rebuild my contact list.

Beanbag

When we were young most of our parents used a bean bag to prevent us to getting a scare if there is a sudden loud sound or movement. I checked online and found that there were a few stores selling such things. I told hubby about it and he suggested trying to make it on our own. I was a little septical initially as I was not sure whether we were able to get the bean sprout husk from the market vendors.

Since there was no harm trying, hubby tried to ask the veggy vendor on a Sunday and they gave us entire plastic bag! We started picking the husk and separating it from the rest of the mess. I Google for the weight of the bean bags are on sale in the market and got the mass required. Although the weight required was just 220grams but it was a lot! The husk were very light thus we under estimated the quantity required. It took us more than a day to get the weight required.

Dear hard at work separating the husks from the rest of the mess. Look at the huge plastic bag beside Dear. That was just part of what the veggie vendor gave us.

The husk which we had separated from the rest of the veggies
A bag was then sew to contain the husks. I took the spare cloth which my mum has at home and make a small bag. Then we placed the husk into the bag and finally sew it up and we are done!
The bag that I had sew.

The finished product.

My colleagues asked me why we go through all these troubles to make the beanbag. Well it was kinda fun and I wanted to do something for my bb. I have always felt that I have not done any thing for her yet. Some mums have been reading or talking to their babies while they are still in their tummies but all I did was to work. I hope that she doesn't hate chemistry when she is in this world as I am preaching chemistry everyday as part of my job.

36 Weeks!

Visited my gynae today again. Since I am in the final stage, visits to the gynae has increased from once every 2 weeks and today Dr Kee announced that I have to visit him once every week. Oh dear...

Dr Kee checked the baby's heartbeat and found it to be normal. The EGC scan also showed that the baby kept moving during the entire monitoring procedure. She is so active. During the scan the nurse also commented that my tummy still look very nice as there were no stretch marks. I am lucky that till now there were no stretch marks but is this going to last?

Bb's head has already turned but has yet to engage into position for labour. Dr Kee also mentioned the possible symptoms that indicate that I would be in labour and to call him if I were to experience any of the following:

1) Contractions (harding of the tummy) in 15 to 20 mins interval
2) Presence of mucous bleeding
3) Breakage of the water bag.

When Bb's weight was measure, she weights a weight of 2.48kg now 200grams more from just two weeks ago. I have also gained a total of 10kg from the start of the pregnancy. Now I really feel pregnant. I am walking slower then my usual speed. Most people know that I normally walk very fast, this is echo by most of my customers who keep telling me to reduce my speed when they see me walking around in their labs. But now I am sure I am walking slower then the normal speed. My husband told me to go home and wait for him while he goes to my in laws place. When I asked him for the reason, he said he can go and come home faster if I am not following him. -_-

My feet is also bloated. I was examining my feet and I could not see the veins in my feet. I also can see the marks left by my shoes which will disappear after awhile. All the signs that my feet has water retention.

My face! This is the worst. It has lots of pimples now... My nose is also red and bigger. Everyone tells me that.. I am so sad. Hope that all these will go away after bb is out. Crossing fingers and toes.

Sleeping is also a problem for me now... I feel tired so easily but I will wake up numerous times in the middle of the night to go to the toliet. I also have problems turning in my sleep. I have to shift and shift a little before I could turn over to sleep on the other side.

Bb is also moving and kicking a lot now. I can feel her kicks and movement almost all the time. Maybe because the space inside is so small so I can feel everything she is doing. Sometimes she even kick my ribs. I will go for another review this coming weekend and I hope bb gains sufficient weight for birth. Two weeks ago, bb was 2.2Kg. Wonder what is her weight this week.

Phototaking

Here is one of the photo which I had taken by my friend who is interested in phototaking. Hence he got us to be his first "customer". We had lots of fun taking the photos maybe as we are all friends and we were like talking and saying things about each other to make the rest laugh. It was a really pleasant experiance.

However in this photo I don't seem to look too happy in it. With this bulk, I am unable to stretch down and pick up the things that dropped or are on the floor. Maybe with the large load, my feet hurts at the end of the day. Climbing up the flight of stairs to my home is also a chore now. I will feel tired and breathless after just climbing one or two flights of the stairs. I wondered if I had not be exercising since I got pregnant.

Bb's kicks are also getting stronger and stronger each day. I used to feel only flutters inside but now, I can feel her kicks distintively. Its a nice feeling to know that she is active and well when she kicks. But at times when I am working and talking to the customers, these kicks are distracting. At night around 8pm, Bb will move around or kick without fail. When I lie on my side, she will go kick kick kick. Maybe I had made her uncomfortable by lying on her, only when I turn the other side, she may just stop. At times, I get jotted up from my sleep as she gave a forceful kick. Haha...

I have been getting up at 5am recently. I will like to sleep more but I just could not. Then when I am at work I feel so tired and sleepy in the afternoon.... Friends told me that they had no problem with their sleep and always felt so tired at night. Why do I feel so different from them?

This week was our Anniversar but due to the Seminars which my company is having next week, we have been putting in extra hours to prepare for the events and did not have the time to celebrate. Hence Dear had booked a stay at the hotel for two days as I have complained that I am unable to fly to go for short trips anymore. The most funny thing is that the hotel which he had booked is the same hotel which the seminars will be held in too. Hahha. I will be there for the entire week. Looking forward to it now... Leaving home in a few mins for my short getaway.

Lottery Ticket

Baby is growing well and gaining almost an average of 300grams every three weeks. Weekends have also be tiring as we were always out hunting and looking at baby's stuffs which to buy during this GSS period.

We have shortlisted down to two prams to purchase from Capella, S228 or S705. Both have their pros and cons. S228 is lighter than S705 but S228 is smaller and has a smaller basket compared to S705. Wonder which one is more suitable for our needs. Hmm... still thinking but I guess we will purchase it before the end of the month as S228 is on sale during this GSS.

There is also the baby cot. We will like to purchase one that can be converted to a junior bed when bb is bigger and older. There are also so many to choose from and we are just spolit for choices. Of course the only restriction is the PRICE!

There seems to be so many things to be purchase and done.....

We have also signed up for Preparation to Parenting Course which is recommended by hubby's friends. This course has 6 sessions but I do not think that I will be able to attend all the 6 courses. Maybe I will have to miss one or two lessons since the course is ending near my estimated due date. Looking forward to attending this course in August.

Expenditure!

With the Great Singapore Sale on, we decided to start purchasing things for little bb. Actually we even started before the GSS in Brisbane. Whenever we go shopping nowadays, it usually out looking at the baby stuffs. We practically went crazy at DFO in Brisbane.

Look at all the clothings which we had purchased. They were pretty cheap so we decided to purchase some.. But without realising it, we purchased that many.

This is my personal favourite!

These are the things which her Daddy wanted to get for her. Aren't they cute?

We also received news that there was a carnival ongoing at Philips and we headed down to look at the prices. Since we have been on the lookout, we knew that the items were really cheaper then when its on sale at the departmental store and purchased some items. Well, not some.. but quite a bit. Hahaha.

The weather was pretty hot then as I headed over after my gynae appointment in the morning. Only when we reached home, we realised that there were some items that were free in the steriliser which we had added on in the purchase. Now we have additional pacifier and teats for newborn. Hiaz....

The items spend at the Philips Carnival was about $400 already. This is not including the items which we had bought at the Robinson Sale and in Brisbane. We also still need to get the big items like the stroller and the baby cot. We plan to get the baby cot which will enable us to use it till bb is around 4 or 5 years old. Hopefully there will be a good bargain with the GSS here.

Trip to Brisbane 09

We are back from Brisbane! The trip was a little to short as we were there for only 4 days. We wanted to extend however it was too late as the air tickets were already booked and cannot be changed. There will be another time I guess. After we touched down at Brisbane Airport, we collected our rented cars and spend a while at the airport car park figuring how to move the car seat forward! hahaha... As we arrived at midnight, the car park was pretty dark and we could not find the button to open the boot! hahahah. After fumbling for a while we finally found the right buttons and we headed off to our service apartment at Oaks Charlotte Towers. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment with kitchen and living room which were all pretty nice!

The living room from the balcony

The Bedroom

The toilet.

On the second day, we had our Team Building activities. We were divided into groups and to perform some art on a painting which was actually divided into 16 pieces. There were a lot of chaos at the beginning as the painting had to be matched and the colours were different. We managed to finished the entire painting on time and here is the result!

The picture does not have any meaning to it. We even added our company logo to it haha.

The group picture with the finished product. The second half of the day was Hell Kitchen, where we had to cook two dishes and to present it. We all headed over to Woodsworth to purchase our items and there were a lot of fun trying to get the best bargains from the supermarket. Luckily Dear taught me to purchase everything and anything that is their housebrands and we managed a savings of $14. We bought mostly things for the bb like overall and all as they were really cheap. Dear managed to get a pair of Levis while bb got 5 suits! I saw the radiologist who performed the scan on me typed the word G I R L in and I went hmmmm. With the swine flu going on, it was a little chaotic at TMC as we are suppose to fill up the forms and take our temperature before we were allow to go in. I will say that the things were not organised properly so things were a little messy. Thank God that the government will change it from Orange to Yellow alert on Monday.

The scanned showed everything is normal and baby is healthy. That is the best thing I had heard. Nothing really beats the health of the baby. During the scan she also showed us that the baby is growing normally and has the necessary fingers and toes. While showing us the scans, bb started to kick. Or should I say stamp her foot! She does not kick only once, she does it continuously for a few times! Maybe she thinks that she is Wong Fei Hong and performs the no shadow kick in my tummy. Hahhaa

I am leaving for the airport soon! Oh well, I will wait for the detailed scanning which is tomorrow before I am sure that bb is boy or girl after the previous incident. Dr Kee also managed to show us a 3D picture of little bb, but it wasn't very clear as he said the placenta was in the way... Hmmm will we be able to see something tomorrow then??

Now we are trying to search online for bb names. There are so many names to choose from and we are pretty lost. When we thought that a name seems nice, we realised that the meaning of the name seems weird. We are also afraid that the name will be easily twisted and change when bb goes to school by her friends. Ohhh... such a tough choice and I mean only the english name. I have yet to get down to the chinese one. Tough tough choices...

Some of the names we have came across and seems nice are:

Audrey
Andrea
Nicole - seems to be favoured by Dear
Kaylie

Any suggestions??

I am gaining weight! I don't know what happened but one day when I got up in the morning, I realised that my pants became so tight. (The pants which I used to wear before I was pregnant.) I could wear this pants just 3 or 4 days ago, suddenly its so tight. Colleagues in office also mentioned that suddenly they could see my tummy clearly. Hmmm.... explosion over night?

As I will be travelling to Brisbane next month, I had asked the Gynae whether it was ok for me to fly. He did not see any problems with me flying, but will like to see me again before I fly off.

During our previous visit to the gynae, he was able to detect something on the baby and he told us that he thinks that the baby is a boy boy. He even said that he was sure 80%. With that in mind, we mentally prepared ourselves that baby is boy boy.

I believe that some of you know that there is a chinese calendar which allow us to predict the sex of the baby base one our chinese age and the month which the baby is conceived. With that calendar, it predicted that the baby was a girl girl instead of a boy boy. So when the gynae mentioned that baby is a boy boy, I was puzzled.

The twist came yesterday when I visited the gynae again. The baby was pretty cooperative and was willing to show us the sex organs. This time the doctor mentioned that he is 100% sure that its a girl! hmmm.... So is it a boy or girl????

15 Weeks

The last visit to the gynae was a reassuring one. The OSCAR test results showed that the baby is normal and he/she is growing fine in me. At that point in time, baby was around 106grams. Yes, 106 grams! hahha... That is very small isn't it?

As I had been getting dizzy spells, I asked the doctor about it and he suggested that I should check my vision again. He suspected that the glasses that I am wearing might not be suitable for me anymore. The change in vision might have resulted in the dizzy spells which I have been getting in the evening.

He was also pretty funny when I told him that I feel dizzy after taking dairy products. He just nonchalantly told me not to take dairy products and he will prescribe calcium pills for me instead. Hiaz....

I have not be gaining much weight either. I just simply gained 0.5kg in the last few weeks. However as the nausal feeling has slowly disappeared, my appetite has increase a little. I still can't eat much for dinner as the stomach is pretty bloated at the end of the day. At least I am able to stomach my entire lunch and still have room for a little more. Today, I gave my colleagues a scare when I told them that I still felt hungry after a plate of mee goreng. Hahhaa.

I still don't look pregnant at all. At the most I look like I did not exercise for a while as my tummy seems a little rounded. I doubt that people will believe that I am pregnant if they were to see me. Most of them even said that I lost weight. I hope baby is growing well.

Been having sleepless nights as well. Previously I will be knocked out by 9 or 10 pm. These few weeks I have been sleeping at 1 am or even later. Oh dear....

Changes

Recently I feel the changes made to my body in the recent weeks. I feel weaker then normal. I don't get headaches or feel dizzy at all but recent weeks I always either have headaches or feel dizzy. This is especially so when I just taken dairy products like cheese or milk. I only realised it today when my colleague helped me to purchase milk in the afternoon. I feel nausal and dizzy almost immediately when I consume it. hmmmm... I think I should ask the doctor tomorrow.

I also found that I will have nose bleeding occassionally. I woke up a few mornings and found my nose to be bloody. I brushed off those few occassion as I thought that I have scratched myself while sleeping. But today, my nose bleed again while I was driving myself to work. Wonder why....

I hope that bb is fine and growing strong inside me. I have been performing an installation for a strong alkaline chemical company. I have to prepare the sample for this installation. The chemical was so strong that my eyes will hurt. Haiz... Hurray!!! But I just don't feel any better especially these few days. I even puked along the corridor before I could even reach home. I start to get dizzy spells and feel nausal the entire day while I worked. I assumed that things will be better for me once I hit the end of my 1st trimester. I wondered if the nausal feeling will ever go away.

I have started telling colleagues and friends that I am pregnant. I don't look pregnant at all now as the stomach is still not showing. But when I feel like puking and start making vomitting noise, everyone will ask. Are you pregnant? haha. The look on their face will change when I just nod to answer them. They will go: REALLY? Yes yes, I am pregnant. A little one will soon come into our lives. Sorry if I have not told you about it before, I was worried that something might go wrong and I might not be able to explain to everyone if a miscarriage or complications took place. Hence the silence. Please forgive me.

12 Weeks

Hurray I finally reached the end of my first trimester. I do hope that the nausea feelings will go off totally. For now, I do not feel as nausea as before, at least I can stomach my breakfast and lunch without any nausea feeling. Only dinner is a problem now, however there are times whereby I feel perfectly fine and could finish a normal dinner.

I visited the gynae two weeks back and the scans showed that everything was fine. Dr Kee even mentioned that the baby was growing very well and bigger then it should be at 11 weeks. Dr Kee then asked if I wanted to perform the OSCAR test. This test is to determine if the baby I am carry is a normal baby or does it have a higher chance that it will be a baby with down syndrome. I was a little taken back when he asked as he asked me after the scans. I wondered if it was due to some abnormality that he observed when he performed the scan. Hence without hesitation, I agreed to perform the test and it was arrange the following week.

We were referred to TMC for the scan. Dear and I headed there early in the morning hoping that the tests will be complete early so that he can head back to work in the afternoon. While we were there, we were lost. There were no clear signage to inform us on how to get to the fetus testing clinic. The worst thing was that I could not even find the main entrance to enter the building. The door indicated that it will only be opened at at 10am hence we looked for another entrance. Then we realised that the door was actually opened. Hmmm.....
I was also caught by surprise to be spotted by our friend's mother who was working there. She stays at the same block which my parents are staying and her son and I knew each other since kindergarden days. Hahaha. I knew that she is working there but to be called by her in the hospital just seems a little scary. haha.. I felt like a little kid who was caught skipping school.

During the scan, the radiologist was unable to get a good scan which will enable her to perform the calculations. She was trying to get a good measurement of the distance between the neck and the lining of the neck (sorry don't know the actual name of it). The baby was a little naughty as he/she refuses to lay straight or kept moving. I was asked to turn to my left or right and even to cough to see if the baby will be bounced to get it in the appropriate position. Hahha. It was funny to see the baby bounced when I just cough slightly.

The radiologist was still unable to get a good scan and I was asked to empty my bladder before she tries again. When I came back, the baby was actually flipped the other way. hmmm just walking from the room to the toilet and back the baby was moved? Hmmm poor baby as I have to walk and stand the entire day while I work. I hope I did not torture it too much.

The radiologist also mentioned that the baby is a very active one as it kept moving. It turned and somersaulted during the entire scan. hahaha.... Really really interesting. I will only get the results in two weeks time when I see Dr Kee again. I hope that the results will be ok.

9th Week (2nd Checkup)

I am back from BKK alive and well.... ermmm actually not so well....

I had some spotting while I was in BKK. Initially I thought that the spotting will cease after a day and some rest. However it persisted for 2 days.... I read that spotting may not be something alarming but after two days, I decided that I should make a call to my gynea for confirmation. Dr Kee was worried and advised me to get myself checked by a local gynae in BKK.

Wanida brought me to their local private hospital, which I think is equivalent to our Raffles Hospital, for the checkup. It would had been difficult if not for Wanida who helped me to translate the questions and answers to the nurses and doctor (although the Doctor spoke perfect English). I had to ask the Doctor the same question twice before he could get what I was asking. In the end he told me that I just needed to have more rest and all would be fine.

Before the Doctor performed the ultrasound on me, I had to drink an entire bottle of water. The water is to make my bladder full so that the intenstines will not rest on my womb. That way he could be able to perform the scan and see things in a better view. It was a torture to drink that entire bottle of water down. After half a bottle I felt like vomitting. However unlike in Singapore where I paid almost 80 bucks for the consultations and scans. In BKK, I paid the same amount for almost 64 pictures of scans in a CD ROM! Hahah I was shocked that there were so many scans pictures that he had given to me. Hmmmm wonder how much will I need to pay for the same amount of scan pictures in Singapore.

When I am back in Singapore, I headed over to Dr Kee's clinic for another checkup. Actually I was due for this second checkup but the spotting kind of persisted and with Dr Kee's advice, I went for the checkup. The consequence was another 100 bucks burnt and a painful bottom. Yes... he gave me a jab to stablise the pregnancy he said its for just in case. Ouch! It ache a lot after the jab but there was no more spotting after that.

Dr Kee even asked if I am still having morning sickness and if I am its a good indication that the baby is growing well. In fact I am feeling horrible each day! But knowing that if I feel horrible and bb is growing well, it makes it more bearable. Oh, bb has also grown from 0.34cm to 2.40cm within 3 weeks. The heartbeat also have increased from 118 bpm to 176bpm! That is really fast isn't it?

I also finally informed my parents about it. I was kind of expecting some reaction with this news but my mother was like huh? oh ok loh..... Arrgghhh ahahhaa. When I questioned why she did not have any reaction, she asked me what did I expect. hmmmm... I was expecting her to tell me to take care and not to fly anymore. I also also kind of waiting for her to scold me for flying despite my condition. But she said its ok to fly.. I almost fainted! hahaha... Well that is my mum.

Now we left with informing his parents when we go over for dinner one of these days... hmmm what will their reaction be?

7th Week

Been feeling horrible these few days. I always feels hungry but can't seem to stomach anything. I want to eat but after eating a few mouthfuls, I want to puke. This is especially so in the evening when the stomach is bloated at its maximum. In the morning, my tummy is at its normal size but come to afternoon or evening, my pants/jeans will be so tight! Why is that so?? hmmm....

Now my boobs have also gotten bigger and I think I will need to purchase new ones soon. Kekkee. I be going to Bkk next week (15 to 19 Feb) and I will purchase them there! Hahhaa... Kekkee. Looking forward to that trip.

I know a lot of people has been telling me that I should not be flying but I have gotten the green light from the Doctor himself. Both Dear and I also feel comfortable hence we have decided, yes I am flying. I know that I am bound to get an earful from my parents and in-laws when they realised that I am flying while pregnant. So lets keep quiet for now.. Its approximately 6 weeks now... We were first shown the water bag which was pretty small....

See the water bag.

Then Dr Kee showed us the embryo, its indicated by the two small arrows. Its so so so small but it was thumping all the way.

We were then told that it was the heartbeat. After measuring, its 118bpm! Isn't it amazing?

After the consulation, I was still reeling from the effects of seeing that small little embryo growing in me and becoming a baby. And of all the things, the heart grew first. How did nature manage to made things that are so complicated from a heart?

Ok... Enough blogging for now.. Feeling dizzy in front of the computer... Don't know why but always feel this way at home, but not in office. Haha...

Oh... Dr Kee mentioned that he don't see any reaosn why I can't fly to BKK for my training. Hahah so happy but he did mention that the first 16 weeks is more critical. Still a little unsure whether I should fly.

Travelling

I have been reading up regarding travelling during this period and all the reports mentioned that its safe to travel during the first and second trimester of your pregnancy. Usually the best time to travel is during your second trimester, as this is the time when you have surpass the morning sickness and the nauseating feelings. Hence its usually safe for healthy pregnant mothers to travel.

However quoted from one of the websites I read:

The doctor may prohibit the mother-to-be from travelling during the fist three months since at that time the risk of miscarriage is the highest. Travelling may also have to be avoided in case of high risk pregnancies or as advised by the doctor.

We will still have to seek our Gynae's advise before I travel. Don't get us wrong that we are unhappy with a child coming into our life. It is just that we did not plan to have this kid in this point of our lives. Hence accepting that our lives are going to change and we will have new responsibilities as parents requires a little time. This is unlike if we were prepared for a kid, we would have been mentally prepared for him/her and will welcome the new life will much more joy. Although I have tested positive on two kits, I kept thinking are those two kits accurate?? Hahaha... I know if Chole knows about this, she sure scold me. Ok ok.. Those who know me well enough knows that I will usually procastinate over things.

Anyway... I tested again as I had another spare kit at home.... its positive. I am just afraid that its a false alarm and this will make Dear disappointed when we visit the Gynae and find that we were wrong.... Dear has been very patient and caring these few days... He will often warn me that I should not eat too much fast food as I love them a lot... He will also check if I have breakfast and whether I am hungry. He even bought me a camera for me to take photos as he knows that I will like to blog the progress of the pregnancy.

He was also very patient as I was scared about the pregnancy. He was always so assuring me although he was unsure about it himself at times. Thank you Dear. Now we wait for the appointment with the Gynae.

I am 5 weeks pregnant now... The nurse asked me to head over to the Gynae after next week. Wondering if its still early to see the doctor now, but I need a confirmation for the pregnancy and advise whether I can travel to BKK for my training program. I did inform only my manager about it as the pregnancy is still in its early stages. Everything is still uncertain now. We did not even inform our parents as if I want to fly, I can't tell them yet.

I have been feeling like vomitting at various times of the day... Sometime just before a meal... or when I see food. Wondered if its just my mind making me feel this way.

I am Pregnant

I am pregnant!! I just can't believe it. Yes its really too early to be having a kid in this stage of our life since we are just married 3 months. It was really an accident, we did not plan to have a kid till 3 years later. This little kid just came along.

I had this feeling that I was pregnant when I miss my menses and my stomach was really bloated. I felt so tired and slept almost 12 hours on Saturday. The other day I also slept for almost 10 hours. I do normally feel tired during PMS but just one day was sufficient for me to recuprate, but this time.... Over two weeks I slept at about 10pm (by dozing off in front of the tv). Friends who know me... this is pretty early for me.

After chatting with a friend, she told me to wait till next week before I perform any pregancy check with the kit. However I was a little anxious and bought two cheap kits off the rack yesterday. I tested once I got home.

It was POSITIVE.

Maybe the test was wrong? So I called Dear to purchase a more expensive one. I made a mistake to call him while he was at home and informed him about the test. I should had waited for him to be home and tell him. I lost the chance to see the look on his face when I tell him that its a positive. Hiaz... this was the only time that I will get to see that reaction.

It was positive this time again....

With two kit giving me positive results it should be positive right? After that... both of us just sat in front of the tv looking at each other and smile at time to time. The fact that the both of us are going to be parents has yet to sink into our brains. Now I will try to find a gynae to check. I am a little worried as I am scared of the possiblity that the baby does not have a heartbeat. Hence I am not informing my parents now till we can confirm at least the baby has a heartbeat.

I am suppose to fly to BKK next month. I wonder if I should go now...
